WEBINAR: THE IMPORTANCE OF ICZM FOR COASTAL TOURISM DESTINATIONS ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE

The first BLUEISLANDS capacity building webinar is set on 17 May 2018, at 14.30 (Brussels time).

The Mediterranean islands are under increasing environmental pressure (resource over-exploitation), facing challenges such as: population growth, urbanization, tourism and other multiple and often conflicting resource usage trends. The mitigation of the resource conflict problems and the practical adaptation of the sustainable economic development policy objective require innovative policy responses.

Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) is a comprehensive policy/management response option. It is a process which enables policy makers to strike a socially acceptable balance between conflicting stakeholder resource demands as they manifest themselves in different economic, socio-political (and institutions), cultural and environmental contexts.

The first webinar, on 17 May 2018, is entitled “the Importance of ICZM for Coastal Tourism destinations adapting to climate change”. It will present to the audience a general overview of the ICZM approach in the Mediterranean underlining valuable good practices to be capitalized by the interested stakeholders on their own territories with a special focus on waste management issues.

The agenda includes:

  • presentation of PAP RAC, the Mediterranean ICZM Protocols and an example of Coastal Plan for Šibenik-Knin County in Croatia (Daria Povh, PAP RAC);
  • ICZM tools applied by Plan Bleu, including CAMP Var study regarding evaluation of coastal risks (Antoine Lafitte, Plan Bleu);
  • presentation of the French Coastal protection agency (Conservatoire du littoral), and ICZM applied at the small islands’ scale: PIM and SMILO international programs (Céline Damery)
